Rui Baeta

Rui Baeta defines himself as being “a work in progress.“ Besides that he’s a musician in love with the smell of the sea and the mountains from countryside.

Who is Rui?

I am a work in progress. So I can tell you what I was and what I would like to be, but who I am actually I just know after it. So I am not finished, that’s the way I live. Of course as a musician and Professional I do music and the voice is my big pasion. Speaking or singing, not just as music. Communication, verbal or artistic. I can say that Rui is someone who loves the sound of the voice and tries to be better each day.

What would you like to do when you grow up?

I am a very passionate person! I want to be able to do a lot of different things with joy and pleasure.

What is the first thing on your mind when you think about Faro?

The house of my parents. Because it’s the place where I grove up and where I return everytime I come Faro. I am always staying with my family in Faro and we appreciate very much the sense of family. I have a sister also lives in Lisbon and everytime we gather in my family house in Faro.

What would be the soundtrack of your life story?

I am always changing but I remember a very important one. It was like a trigger. When I was struggling to choose between History of Art and Music, there is a Portuguese music called  “Inquietação” from José Mário Branco and it pops! The music tells what I was feeling. It punched me in a very strong way and I thought it was a sign for me to choose conservatory.

What is the place in Faro you are most connected to? Why?

The light, the smell, the quality of the air. I just realize when I move to Lisbon. When I go out from the train in Faro, I take a deep breathe and the smell is such amazing! The smell of the sea, mountains from the countryside; and we lose the smell when we stay here too long, we get used to it.
