I worked in a hospital for almost 20 years and studied meanwhile psychology. But then I realized I wanted more and needed a change in my life. I left the hospital and studied Chinese medicine. Moreover, I have always been dedicated to meditation and retreats. When I started to study psychology, I soon felt that this was still not enough for me. I was interested in the body and energy. My interest increased step by step. When I meet a person, I want to capture the person in their entirety: his or her physics, mentality, and energy.
I think psychology was the starting point. I started to study psychology because I always had an interest in helping people and knowing more about humans since I was young.
I see that people feel safer when they know that I am a psychologist too. It means to them that I not only have curiosity but also skills in that subject.
I think people want something to feel better. We are living in a culture, where everything has to be fast. A lot of people, who are in search of meditation retreats and individual therapy, do not have the consciousness that these things take time. Indeed, it sometimes is a hard path. Sometimes, meditation doesn’t make us feel good, because a lot of unpleasant feelings can occur. Moreover, it’s unusual for us to just sit in silence and observe what’s happening inside of us. Although it doesn’t feel good, it’s important to practice: just sit, stay, wait, and observe. For this culture, this is very hard.
Because everything is fast nowadays. We go here, we go there. Even in relationships, everything has to go faster. It feels like we don’t have time.
Yes. It’s hard. It’s very hard to not be in this fast culture. We have to practice and promise ourselves that someday at some point, we are gonna sit and don’t do anything. That’s a big difficulty. How many people do you know that just sit and observe themselves for five minutes? Just sit and don’t do anything? Our heads are always trying to make us do things.
Most people who come to me feel disconnected from themselves.
Society demands a lot of things from us, and we always answer, answer, answer. Consequently, we don’t have time to answer what our inside demands from us.
When a child and its parent come to me, I always ask the parent how the child is feeling. Most parents just see the behavior of their children but do not ask what’s behind that. But that is so important. We need to realize what’s behind our feelings. What’s behind sadness? What’s behind your feeling?
My book is a 31-day trip for human development. One day, one theme, one picture. In my book, there are pictures, painted by both, adults and children. I want that all the people who read this book don’t lose the perspective of a child because that’s who we still are. Although we are grown-ups, we still have a child inside. Most of the time, it’s the child who commands us, although this happens unconsciously. It’s important to not lose the skills of a child because the child gives us creativity and joy. We need to find a balance.
At the end of every day, there is an invitation to do an exercise and there is a music recommendation. At the beginning of the book, you can find a QR code that leads to a Spotify-Playlist.
The book is a story, you can write yourself when you follow the invitations.
For me, being human is having the highest qualities: kindness, love, compassion, and evolving during your journey. When you develop these kinds of qualities, you won’t be just human, but a spiritual being. Being human is just being real, being authentic, and having enough courage to inspire others. Then we can start to live in truth.
One simple thing: I always try to teach my patients to try to be authentic. When I am authentic, I am not afraid of what people are thinking about me. I’m just who I am: I say yes when I feel like saying yes, and I say no when I feel like saying no.
I dare to be honest. Practicing honesty is a good skill to live a true life.
Because of love. It’s always about being in love. We are afraid people don’t like us, so we respond. When we think people expect us to say yes, we tend to say so but it is important to listen to what you’re feeling.
If you say no, you’re probably being honest with yourself. It’s our choice to live our life committed to ourselves and our feelings. There is always something to learn. Maybe saying “no“ now, tells me that it’s a “yes“ then.
I think most of the days in that 24 hours, I have moments of peace. But I don’t have just moments in peace and balance, and I’m okay with it.
It’s the acceptance that I don’t control everything. I accept that in life there will be things that will make me feel bad and that there will be things that will make me feel good. I just control how I will react to those happenings. I live in peace when I choose peace. But in some moments, I also have my demons around me and that’s okay.
I can choose to live my life as a warrior or to live in peace. I can control that. We can control how we respond to requests around us.
Most people decide to fight because they hear everywhere, we have to fight to have a good job, a good relationship, to get something. But we can choose a path of peace by telling ourselves that we will take the steps we can and if this is enough it’s good, if not it’s also fine.
More or less. I think we have already had a good journey until here, but I think there still is a lot of judgment. People are curious and start to think about spirituality but quickly they start to have doubts because spirituality is not a science.
Although the path to a more open-minded society was already good, we have to continue.
I imagine the human soul with a lot of colors. I once painted a picture.
I think we are spiritual souls, traveling in a material world because our souls choose to be here for this experience. Sometimes it’s difficult and you have to learn to live with acceptance, compassion, and love. We are here to experience love in a difficult world. You can only experience love when things are difficult. Somehow our souls choose to be here to learn and develop. It’s a big mystery. Meditating gives us space to live in peace with this.
First of all, you need to have the willingness to start. And then: practice, practice, practice. It’s not difficult, because we don’t have to achieve everything at once. We just have to sit, observe, and respect feelings. You will become more and more aware of what is happening inside. And when you know what happens inside, you start to get to know yourself.
Yes. You just have to connect with yourself. I think breathing is the tool, our first tool. When a human is born, he or she starts to breathe. That’s how you know, you are alive. If you connect to your breathing, then you start to connect step by step with your inside. And maybe you’re in a chaotic and crowded place but if you feel connected with yourself, you know that the outside is not your inside. You can feel peace. Even in a chaotic world.
