João Justo

Dreaming about being a football player as a child, João ended up working in business management. He also considers the beach in Faro to be “our Miami beach“.

Who is João?

My name is João. I’m 29 years old. I have a BA in Economics. I’m from Faro, I studied here and now I work here.

What would you like to do when you grow up?

When I was a child, my dream was to be a football player. However, a lot of things changed. At the moment, I’m doing something I didn’t think to do when I was a child. I studied Economics, and now I work in business management. I had no idea that I would be working in this area when I was a child. When we are children, our dreams are to be an astronaut, a football player, etc.

What is the first thing on your mind when you think about Faro?

For me, it’s Faro beach. Maybe for foreign people, Faro is not known for its beach. Faro is an airport. But for me and my friends, the beach is a special place. In the summer, we spent a lot of time there.  For me, it’s our Miami beach. The memory that connects me the most with this place is friendship. I remember going to the beach with my friends, playing football there, drinking a beer and overall having a good time.

What would be the soundtrack of your life story?

It will have to be Portuguese music. Da Weasel – Força. It’s a Portuguese song about force and strength. It’s a Portuguese band very special to me. They play different kinds of music: hip-hop, rap, rock and also have very good lyrics. The members of the band separated in 2010, and now, this year, they were supposed to have a concert. But because of COVID, they couldn’t anymore. Maybe the concert will happen next year.

What is the place in Faro you are most connected to? Why?

Jardim da Alameda is a very special place for me because when I was a kid, me and my grandfather used to come here and play. And university too. The university is a very special place for me.
