The FRONTEiRAS International Film Showcase arose from the need to promote alternative audiovisual content to that offered by the commercial billboards and television. Contextos is the event’s official local partner from Portugal for the second time, after the 2017th edition.

In the global context of the pandemic, for this year’s edition FRONTEiRAS decided to move online, happening from 7 to 10 of April on the https://fronteiras.net/ website. All the movies selected for the showcase will be available to stream during all the four days; you can check the agenda here.

Our programme aims to spread film productions that deal with borders: physical, emotional, material, geographical, sexual, religious and mental borders, among others. We also want to strengthen links between Spain and Portugal through culture and cinema as a vehicle for social and humanistic communication. Making Spanish productions known in Portugal and vice versa, bringing the culture of both sides closer.

We will invite national and international authors with quality productions that, in addition to showing their work, will allow the public to be educated, raising awareness of issues that have become real frontiers and that must be broken down for a better humanity and its development. You will have the chance of attending a masterclass with the Andalusian filmmaker Benito Zambrano. If you want to apply for it you can fill the form here. We are also planning a virtual meeting with Jesús Armesto, Mercedes Moncada Rodríguez, Miguel Ángel Rosales and Lorenzo Benítez, happening online on FRONTEiRAS Youtube channel.

This event has, for this very reason, a very cultural aspect, but also one of active citizenship, and a contribution to the development of human, cultural and social values. We believe it is necessary to train a critical and conscious audience to discover, share and transform the world through their stories and build together a more empathetic, open and committed society.

Our programme includes feature and short films, both fiction and documentaries, as well as a space for dialogue with the public, providing the opportunity for the largest and most diversified audience to access this exhibition and its different contents.

We will have sessions for all audiences, with the morning sessions being aimed at schools and institutes in the area with specific screenings for pupils. The general public will also find content adapted to each age group in the different afternoon and evening sessions.

About Contextos

Contextos’ story begins in 2016 with the idea of giving an answer to social demands in an integral way and to propose custom-made solutions. Contextos aims at fostering and promoting community empowerment and development as the keystone of processes of change in the society, using participatory tools to develop competencies and capabilities within individuals and organizations.

Our projects focus on culture, media, education/training, participatory democracy, active citizenship, human rights, intercultural dialogue, non-formal learning, social entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. We follow transversely in our projects and activities the principles of non-formal education. We use a diverse set of approaches and learning methods, in which people are challenged to make use of a critical and reflective attitude about their own experience (professional and/or personal).

We cooperate with public institutions especially at local and regional levels, schools, universities, vocational and other educational institutions, public and private social inclusion organizations, and other NGOs.

About Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an umbrella project aiming to put together a large number of projects, events and initiatives developed by Contextos in terms of communication, classic and digital marketing, offline and online events and media campaigns.

The main goal of the project is to increase social inclusion and to raise awareness about social issues in a creative, non-formal and outside the box way. Considering the present context in which the online and word of mouth forms of communications are the fastest ways to reach a broad and relevant audience, Vitamin D was developed to use all available channels in order to promote solidarity, social inclusion and active citizenship.

All the projects included in Vitamin D are designed for promoting media and art as a tool for social expression and for the integration of young people into society.
